Snyder, Muamba & Skillen receive week 3 honors
X-Men quarterback Steve Snyder was named the StFX Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 27, 2009. Steve, a fifth year Arts student from London, ON was 30 for 38 in completions for a total of 396 passing yards in the X-Men’s 19-17 interlock win over Concordia at Montreal. Steve threw a 52 yard touchdown pass in the 1st quarter to increase the StFX lead to 9-0, and did not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game en route to the X-Men’s 3rd consecutive win of the season. Steve is currently 1st in the AUS in passing average/game (347.7), total passing yards (1043), completions (75) and passing touchdowns (5).
\r\nX-Men linebacker Henoc Muamba was named the StFX Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 27, 2009. Henoc, a third year Information Systems student from Mississauga, ON played a very strong game defensively for the X-Men in their recent 19-17 interlock win over Concordia. He led all X-Men with 8 tackles in the game, all solo tackles, including 1 tackle for a loss of 10 yards on a quarterback sack. Henoc is picking up where he left off last season as the 2008 AUS Defensive Player of the Year, leading all X-Men in total tackles (14.5) and slotting in 4th in the AUS in this category after playing in just two games.
\r\nX-Men defensive end David Skillen was named the StFX Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 27, 2009. David, a fifth year Business student from Fredericton, NB had a strong game for the X-Men on both special teams coverage and defense in their 19-17 interlock win over Concordia. David was solid for X on punt coverage and also recorded 5.5 tackles in the game (4 solo and 3 assisted), including two tackles for a loss of 7 yards. He was the CIS Defensive Player of the Week in the X-Men’s first week of the season and was a 2008 AUS all star.
