Metulynsky, Nkansah & Mims earn football honors
X-Men football wide receiver Mark Metulynsky was named the StFX Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 18th, while defensive back Kwasi Nkansah earned Defensive Player of the Week honors and defensive lineman Calvin Mims was the Special Teams Player of the Week.
X-Men Football Offensive Athlete of the Week
X-Men wide receiver Mark Metulynsky was named the StFX Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 18, 2009. Mark, a fourth year Arts student from LaSalle, ON, scored the X-Men’s only touchdown off a 9 yard pass in the 3rd quarter, in their recent 33-12 interlock loss to Bishop’s. Mark led all receivers in the game with 6 catches for a total of 91 yards and also saw action on special teams. He returned 5 punts for 19 yards and 3 kickoffs for 64 yards. Mark is currently tied for 3rd overall in the AUS in receiving yards/game with an average of 70.7 yards/game.
X-Men Football Defensive Athlete of the Week
X-Men football defensive back Kwasi Nkansah was named the StFX Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 18, 2009. Kwasi, a fifth year Information Systems student from Oakville, ON played a strong game on defense for the X-Men in their recent 33-12 interlock loss to Bishop’s. Kwasi led all StFX defensive players in the game in total tackles with 7, including 3 solo and 8 assisted tackles. Kwasi is currently in the top 15 in the AUS in tackles, averaging 4.3/game and was a 2008 AUS all-star.
X-Men Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week
X-Men defensive lineman/linebacker Calvin Mims was named the StFX Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 18, 2009. Calvin, a fourth year Arts student from Sacramento, CA played a strong game for the X-Men on special teams in their recent 33-12 interlock loss to Bishop’s, making several key plays on the special teams defense. He had a total of 5 solo and 3 assisted tackles in the game including a tackle for a loss of yards and a forced fumble. Calvin is currently averaging 4 tackles per game for the X-Men.
