Hartmann & Hollohan named AUS Players of the Week

StFX defensive back Raye Hartmann is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 19th, 2010. Raye, a first year Arts student from Mississauga, ON, picked up his first two career interceptions this past Saturday in StFX’s 27-10 loss to Montreal. The two turnovers were the only interceptions in the game for either team. Raye also recorded two tackles on the day. Hartmann’s two interceptions lead the X-Men and rank second in the Atlantic conference through two games.

Defensive back Dylan Hollohan of the StFX X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Dylan, a third year Engineering student from Moncton, NB, had the highlight of the game for the X-Men in their recent 27-10 loss to the CIS No. 3 ranked Montreal Carabins. Hollohan returned a missed field goal 119 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s game to narrow the score to 17-10 with seven minutes left in the contest. The return second longest missed FG return in X-Men history. Dylan also finished with a game-high 10.0 tackles.

Receiver Gary Ross of the Mount Allison Mounties is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 19th, 2010. Ross, a fifth year Biology student from Windsor, ON, continues to re-write the AUS and CIS record books in his final season of eligibility. This past weekend in a 41-10 road loss to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or, Gary caught 10 passes for a career-high 194 yards and scored the Mounties lone touchdown on a 75-yard strike from QB Jake Hotchkiss late in the first half. Ross’ previous career-high was a 186-yard outing in 2008. Gary, the 2009 AUS Most Outstanding Player, finished the game with 281 all-purpose yards. Already the AUS career leader in receptions (188) and receiving yards (2,834), he now ranks fourth all-time in CIS receptions and is ninth in CIS career receiving yards.
