X-Men remain undefeated
The nationally ranked #5 X-Men basketball team improved their league record to 3-0 with a pair of wins this past weekend as they defeated UNB 96-78 and Dalhousie 77-61.
\r\nFriday night at the StFX Oland Centre the X-Men were led by Tyler Richards and T-Bear Upshaw who scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, on route to a 96-78 win over the visiting UNB Varsity Reds.
\r\nStFX held a 45-42 half-time lead but opened up in the second half, out scoring the Varsity Reds 30-21 in the third quarter and 21-15 in the fourth, shooting 68% from field goal range. Richards also contributed 5 assists and 5 steals while Upshaw had a game-high 14 assists. Terrance Taylor scored 13 points and had 6 rebounds while Alberto Rodriguez also scored 13 and had 4 boards. Dwayne Johnson scored 12 points and had 6 rebounds for the X-Men.
\r\nColton Wilson led the Varsity Reds with 25 points while Antwann Parks scored 13 and Lonzel Lowe had 11.
\r\nThe X-Men kept with their winning ways on Sunday afternoon at the Dalplex in Halifax, handing the #10 ranked Dalhousie Tigers a 77-61 defeat.
\r\nT-Bear Upshaw scored 14 points and had 6 assists for the X-Men, who led 43-34 at half-time after outscoring the Tigers 25-16 in the second quarter. They continued their lead in the third frame scoring another 20 points to the Tigers 7.
\r\nDwayne Johnson played a strong game for X, scoring 13 points and adding 9 rebounds and 3 steals. Rookie Jeremy Dunn scored 10 points and had 2 steals while Tyler Richards scored 8 points and had 6 assists.
\r\nJosh Beattie led the Tigers with 21 points. Simon Farine scored 14 points and Germain Beneque scored 13 and had 10 rebounds.
\r\nAt 3-0, the X-Men are the only undefeated team remaining in the AUS early on in the season, and currently sit in a first place tie with Cape Breton. They will host two home games at the StFX Oland Centre this weekend. UPEI (2-2) will be in town Saturday afternoon at 3pm, while Saint Mary’s (1-2) visits Sunday afternoon, also at 3:00.
