X-Men play consistent game, beat Tigers 79-66
The StFX X-Men staved off a resilient Dalhousie Tigers team Wednesday night in Antigonish to win 79-66. The win broke a two-game losing skid after the X-Men slid two spots in the national rankings from second to fourth in the country this week.
Subway Player of the Game Will Donkoh had 14 points, 5 assists and 6 rebounds to lead the X-Men to the victory.
Jeremy Dunn had 22 points to act as a consistent scorer for the blue and white throughout the whole game.
Stephen Lopez and Casey Fox each had 14 points to pace the Tigers in a losing effort.
Terry Thomas and Shane Copeland had 13 and 12 points, respectively to provide the X-Men with secondary scoring in their bid for the victory.
The blue and white were 45.3% from the field and 25% from three-point range.
Dalhousie led 23-22 after the first quarter, but the X-Men poured on a consistent effort to win each of the next three quarters and eventually win the game.
The X-Men really gained their healthy lead in the second quarter, when Will Donkoh and Jeremy Dunn connected on numerous shots from inside the paint and pushed the Tigers defense back to a standstill.
With the win the CIS No. 4 X-Men (8-2) move into a tie with Cape Breton for first place in the conference with 20 points apiece.
StFX returns to action this Saturday night, January 21st against their arch rival Cape Breton Capers in Antigonish. It is the annual ‘white out’ game so fans are encouraged to wear white to the game and come early as seats will fill up quickly. Tipoff is at 8:00 pm.
