X-Men vs Sea-Hawks basketball preview
The StFX X-Men basketball team will travel to St. Johns, NF to take on the Memorial Sea-Hawks in back-to-back weekend action this February 18th and 19th at 8:00pm Saturday and 1:00pm Sunday. The X-Men will be looking to grab a huge eight points with two victories over the sea-Hawks, which would give them a comfortable lead in first place and clinch them an AUS playoff first round bye.
X-Men: 13-4 record with 34 points, first place in AUS conference.
Sea-Hawks: 1-15 record with 2 points, eighth place in AUS conference.
X-Men vs. Sea-Hawks: This weekend will mark the first time this regular season that the CIS No. 8 ranked X-Men and Sea-Hawks will play each other. With the season winding down, the X-Men have clearly been one of the superior teams against the rest of the conference this year and it will be interesting to see what their first matchup with Memorial will be like.
Key Players: The X-Men are led by Terry Thomas and Jeremy Dunn, who have both been the X-Men’s top offensive producers all season. Thomas sits third in AUS conference scoring, averaging 18.8 points per game, while Dunn is eighth in league scoring averaging 16.8 points per game. Bol Kong and Tyrell Vernon have turned it on as of late for the X-Men as well, providing timely secondary scoring.
Jason Shepherd has been the key offensive cog for the Sea-Hawks this season, currently sitting in fourth place in the AUS, averaging 18 points per game. Robbie Habib has had a productive seasons was well for Memorial, coming in at 15th spot in the AUS averaging 15.3 points per game.
Game Notes:
The X-Men are putting together a nice winning streak, having won their last four games and looking to extend that streak this weekend.
Memorial and StFX are not very familiar with each other this year, so there could be a feeling out process in the first game Saturday night.
The X-Men have been excellent on the defensive side of the ball this season as they are ranked fourth in blocks per game and seventh in steals per game in the nation.
Memorial is third in assists per game and eighth in free throw percentage in the country.
