Oregon State transfer Antoine Vernon commits to X-Men

Antigonish, NS – StFX X-Men basketball head coach Steve Konchalski is excited to announce the commitment of 6'0" transfer point guard Antoine Vernon to the roster for the 2020-21 season.

A Hamilton, Ont. native, Antoine played the last two seasons at Oregon State in the very competitive NCAA Division I Pac-12 conference where he appeared in 55 games. Prior to that he led TRC Academy (Brantford, ON) to the OSBA Championship in 2018 where he was a first team all-star, averaging 16.7 points per game, 8.7 assists per game and 6.3 rebounds per game. He was also selected to play in the Biosteel All-Canadian game in 2018. Vernon is the younger brother of X-Men associate head coach Tyrell Vernon, who will take over for Coach K after next season. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

"Antoine is a huge recruit for our program," states Coach Konchalksi. "I have been watching his development since grade 10 and he secures the point guard position at StFX for years to come."

Vernon joins former prep school teammates Justin Andrew, heading into his fifth season with X, and fellow X-Men recruit Jeremiah Usiosefe (Hamilton, ON). Other previously announced recruits include guard Gatluak James (Windsor, ON), forward Handy Disanka (Toronto, ON) and guard Bennett Grumbach (Toronto, ON).

The X-Men were finalists at the AUS championship this past season and will be hosting the U SPORTS national championship at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax in March, 2021.
