X-Men hit the ice
Sep 22, 2008 - The X-Men hockey team began thier exhibition competition this past weekend with a couple of home games and came away with a close 2-1 shootout win over Acadia and a lopsided 6-1 loss to Moncton. Friday night at the Antigonish Arena, both the Axemen and X-Men were held scoreless through one period of play and up until 7:54 of the second frame when X-Man Chris Hulit scored the first goal of the game, on the power play, with assists from Sam Roberts and Mark Louis. Acadia tied the game with a power play goal of thier own late in the third period by Jonathan Laberge. The two teams were trading goals and saves in the shootout until Brett Liscomb scored the eventual game winner for StFX. Danny Battochio played well for the X-Men in nets as Acadia had the shot margin in game 33-24. He earned the for X, while Kristofer Westblom took the loss for Acadia.
\r\nOn Saturday night, the X-Men played an off-site home exhibition game at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, and though Brett Morrison notched the first marker in the game 13:21 minutes into the first period, the Aigles Bleus de Moncton replied with two second period goals and four more in the third period. Remi Doucet and Billy Bezeau each scored twice for Moncton with Remi Gautreau and Francis Marchand earning the others. Shots on net were 30-27 in favour of the Aigles Bleus as P.A. Marion earned the win between the pipes for Moncton, splitting time with Kevin Lachance. Ryan Aschaber took the loss for StFX.
\r\nThe ice X-Men will travel to Wolfville, NS this weekend for the Don Wells Invitational tournament taking place at Acadia University. Also participating are the host Axemen along with Saint Mary's and Queens University.
