Ice X-Men drop 2 games
The hockey X-Men suffered a pair of losses this past weekend at the hands of Dalhousie and Acadia, dropping a 6-4 decision Friday night in Halifax to the Tigers and a 4-3 loss to the Axemen at home Saturday.
\r\nThe X-Men were tied at 1-1 with Dalhousie after the first period of play and led 3-2 after two periods before the Tigers scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take the lead. Phil Mangan scored for X late in the third period to pull to within 5-4, but Jeff MacGregor scored an empty netter for the Tigers to seal the win, his second of the game
\r\nOther Tiger goal scorers were Francois Gauthier, Jordan Villeneuve-Gagne, Shea Kewin and Brendon MacDonald while Brett Morrison, Chris Hulit and Nick Pageau scored the StFX markers.
\r\nBryan Gillis took the loss in nets for StFX, while Bobby Nadeau earned the win for Dalhousie, who narrowly outshot the X-Men by a 38-36 margin.
\r\nThe X-Men played a close game Saturday night at home against Acadia, and in a game that could have gone either way, ended up on the losing side of a 4-3 decision.
\r\nPaul McFarland opened the scoring in the game for Acadia in a first period that saw five goals scored and a 3-2 lead in favour of the Axemen after 20 minutes play. Andrew Clark and David Lomas were the other Acadia goal scorers while Matthew Bragg and Murdock MacLellan scored for StFX.
\r\nSpencer McAvoy tied the game with a 7:39 second period marker, but Philippe Bertrand scored the game winner at 15:12, which held for the remainder of the game as the two teams skated to a scoreless third period.
\r\nThe Axemen held a slight 27-25 edge in shots in the game with Kristofer Westblom earning the win in nets. Joey Perricone took the loss for the X-Men.
\r\nWith a 7-4-3 record and 17 points in fourth place, the X-Men will travel to Saint Mary’s (8-3-2) Wednesday night for their final AUS game prior to the Christmas break. The Huskies are one point ahead of the X-Men in the standings.
