X-Men Bast-k in Quarter-Finals Victory

The Dalhousie Tigers are done in AUS men’s hockey.
The St. Francis Xavier X-Men skated away with a 3-2 win Saturday in Halifax to take the best-of-three quarter-final series in two straight games.
Jason Bast’s goal with 10 seconds left in the final period broke a 2-2 tie.
Dalhousie’s Benoit Gervais had the only goal over the first 40 minutes.
Phil Mangan and Chris Hulit scored in the first 6:45 of the third period to put the X-Men up by a goal. Jacob Johnson scored at 8:29 to draw the Tigers even.
St. F.X. outshot Dalhousie 38-29.
The CIS No. 7 X-Men will advance to play defending CIS champion Saint Mary’s, ranked fifth, in the semifinals.
Axemen 1, Panthers 0: At Charlottetown, fourth-seeded Acadia swept a low-scoring quarter-final with UPEI to set up a semifinal series against CIS top-ranked UNB.
Scott Tregunna’s goal at 5:05 of the first period proved the difference.
Acadia won the series opener 1-0 Friday night in Wolfville. Tregunna had both goals in the series for the Axemen.
Kristofer Westblom made 31 saves for the shutout on Saturday. He stopped all 56 shots he faced in the series.
In women’s play, it was:
Huskies 2, Mounties 1: At Sackville, N.B., Kyla Thurston scored twice in the second period to pace visiting Saint Mary’s, 10-11-2.
Katelyn Morton had the goal for Mount Allison, 9-11-2.
Mount A outshot Saint Mary’s 36-28.
Tommies 6, Tigers 3: At Dalhousie, Lyse Rossignol scored twice for St. Thomas.
Kayla Blackmore, Renata Mastna, Amy Kelbaugh and Courtney Fox also scored for the visitors.
Laura Shearer, Rebecca Smyth and Jocelyn LeBlanc had the Dalhousie goals.
X-Women 8, Panthers 1: At Charlottetown, St. F.X. remained perfect at 22-0 with a romp over host UPEI.
