Hockey X-Men can't solve Panthers
The X-Men hockey team are coming home winless after dropping their second game of the weekend, 2-1 to UPEI, Saturday evening in Charlottetown. They lost a 5-2 decision to CIS ranked No. 1 UNB on Friday night.
Mike MacIsaac’s power play goal 3:23 minutes into the third period was the decider for the UPEI Panthers. All three goals in the game were scored on the man advantage.
Panthers Jared Gomes was the first to hit the back of the net as he scored on the power play at the 7:09 mark of the first period. Alex Wall and Matt Carter assisted on the play. StFX’s Jason Bast tied the game with a power play marker of his own at 11:19 from Spencer McAvoy and Brett Morrison. The 1-1 deadlock held for the remainder of the period and through to MacIsaac’s third period goal. Wall picked up his second assist of the game, and Reggie Traccitto was also in on the UPEI goal.
The X-Men outshot the Panthers 28-19 but were unable to solve Mavric Parks who picked up the win in nets for UPEI. Joey Perricone took the loss for the X-Men, who drop to 5-9-3 on the season. They will host the same two opponents this coming weekend as UPEI (10-6-0) will be at theStFX Keating Centre Friday night, Jan. 13th followed by a Saturday game against UNB (13-2-1).
