Hockey X-Men to play two exhibition games
The X-Men hockey team will play a pair of exhibition games over the holiday break against AUS opponents. On Friday, December 30th StFX will play the CIS ranked No. 8 Saint Mary’s Huskies in Truro, NS for a 7:00 pm game, while on Monday, January 2nd they travel to Berwick, NS for a game against the Acadia Axemen.
The X-Men find themselves with a 5-7-3 record in sixth place in the highly competitive AUS men's hockey conference at the conclusion of the first half of the season. Saint Mary’s is in second place with a 10-5-1 record, while Acadia is 9-5-1 in fourth place.
In three regular season meetings to date against the Huskies, the X-Men are 0-3. They lost 5-3 back on October 26th in Halifax, then fell 5-1 at home on November 18th and lost again in Halifax on November 30th in a penalty-filled 6-5 match in their final AUS regular season game before the holidays.
The X-Men are 1-1 to date against the Acadia Axemen. They played home-and-home games on November 25th and 27th where Acadia posted a 4-3 overtime win in Antigonish, then the X-Men earned a 4-1 victory in Wolfville.
After these two exhibition games, the X-Men will resume AUS regular season play with a pair of games on the road January 6th and 7th. They will travel to Fredericton to play the first place and CIS ranked No. 1 UNB Varsity Reds (11-2-1), followed by a game in Charlottetown against the fifth place UPEI Panthers (8-6-0).
