X-Men drop 3-2 OT decision to Panthers

The StFX X-Men, ranked No. 7 in the CIS, dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to the UPEI Panthers in AUS hockey action Saturday night in Charlottetown.
Matthew Malone, on the power play, scored the winner at 8:22 of the extra session.
After the Panthers scored the lone goal of the first period, the X-Men tied it on a power play marker by Nick Pageau in the second. Jarrad Struthers and Josh Day had the assists.
The Panthers regained the lead before the end of the middle period on a goal from Jordan Knox.
Zackary MacQueen of the blue and white evened the game 2-2 at 14:24 of the third period. Bronson Maschmeyer and Struthers assisted on the power play goal.
Drew Owsley made 20 saves for the X-Men who outshot the Panthers 24-23.
With the loss, the X-Men fall to 4-4 on the regular season.
The blue and white will return to action with a pair of games next weekend. The X-Men will host the Dalhousie Tigers on Friday, Nov. 9, with the Acadia Axemen providing the opposition on Saturday, Nov. 10. Puck drop for both games at the Keating Centre is 7 p.m.
