Beukeboom & Owsley earn athlete of the week honors
X-Women rugby No. 8 player Tyson Beukeboom was named the StFX Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 4, 2012. Tyson, a fourth year Human Kinetics student from Uxbridge, Ont., was named the CIS tournament MVP as she helped lead the X-Women to a CIS national championship gold medal victory. The X-Women capped off an undefeated season with a 37-0 win over Guelph in the championship game. Tyson scored the X-Women’s second try of the game, kick starting a second half 32 point explosion. Tyson was also named to the CIS tournament all-star team, and earlier in the week picked up her second consecutive CIS All-Canadian designation.
X-Men hockey goaltender Drew Owsley was named the StFX Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 4, 2012. Drew, a first year business student from Lethbridge, Alta. played two strong games in the StFX net in two close weekend games. In their 5-3 loss to CIS No. 4 UNB on Friday evening, Drew had 35 saves (one empty net goal), and in their close 3-2 overtime loss to UPEI on Saturday, Drew posted 20 saves. In four AUS regular season games to date, Drew has a 2-2 record with a 3.14 goals against average and a .904 save percentage.
