Soccer X-Men split exhibiiton games with Moncton
The X-Men soccer team played two games against the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus this past weekend and came home with a split in pre-season exhibition play.
Saturday evening, the X-Men handled the Aigles Bleus by a 6-2 score. Reigning AUS Most Valuable Player Michael Marousek scored two goals for the blue and white, while singles were added by Jamar Dixon, Michael Tait, Graeme Hodgkinson and Jesse Burgins.
Andrew MacDonald earned the win in nets, and was challenged with three penalty shots in the game, stopping two of the three.
On Sunday afternoon in New Brunswick, the Aigles Bleus defeated the X-Men by a 2-1 margin, scoring the game winning goal in the 90th minute. StFX’s lone goal was scored by freshman Javier Ballve.
Earlier in the week, the X-Men travelled to Charlottetown and earned a 4-1 exhibition win over the UPEI Panthers.
Marousek again hit the score sheet for the X-Men, as did teammates Ballve, Mitchell George and Dylan MacKenzie.
With a 2-1 pre-season record, StFX will play one more exhibition game this coming Tuesday, Sept. 6th when they travel to New Glasgow, NS to host the Dalhousie Tigers in a 6:00 pm match up.
The AUS regular season begins on Sunay, Sept. 11th when the X-Men travel to Wolfville for a game against the Acadia Axemen. The X-Men closed out the 2010 season with an undefeated 11-0-2 record, finishing in first place, while the Axemen were 2-11-0 in the AUS basement.
