X-Men track compete in first meet of 2013

The X-Men indoor track and field team began AUS competition this past Saturday at the Jump Start Moncton Open in New Brunswick. StFX athletes competed in numerous running and jumping disciplines.
In the 60m dash, two X-Men qualified for the final, including Andre Peach who placed fourth overall with a time of 7.50 seconds. Conor Kyte was eighth at 7:61 seconds. Jide Ojuawo (4.64) and Robert Bird (7.65) also ran in the qualifiers for StFX.
In the 300m dash, the X-Men had seven competitors, including the top two finishers in Hayden Peters (37.49) and Mackenzie Munroe (37.54), both first year athletes with the X-Men. Peach (38.79) and Kyte (38.80) came in 6th and 7th, followed by Ojuawo (39.29) in 10th, Chris Shibley (39.98) in 14th and A.J. Doyle (40.12) in 16th.
In the 600m race, Munroe took home another second place showing, running at 1:26.76. Doyle placed 7th overall at 1:34.42, and Stu MacNeil was 8th for the X-Men at 1:35.56.
Three StFX runners competed in the 1000m race. Gabe Quenneville ran at 2:40.30 and was fourth overall. Bryden Tate was fifth at 2:43.88 and MacNeil was ninth at 2:57.56.
Moving into the long distance races, freshman Scott Donald placed second for X in the 15600m race. He ran with a time of 4:11.61and was followed in third and fourth spots by teammates Will Forsey (4:17.15) and Stuart MacPherson (4:22.01). Pat Marlow placed sixth at 4:31.88.
In the men’s age 18-19 3000m race, Donald won with a time of 9:04.07. MacPherson was second at 9:28.44 and Marlow was third at 9:36.72.
Bryden Tate was the top X finisher in the men’s age 20-34 3000m race, clocking in at 9:09.81. Quenneville was fifth at 9:22.97, followed by Forsey in sixth at 9:36.69.
In the 60m hurdles, Devon Martell placed second overall, finishing with a time of 9.19 seconds. Colin Thompson (9.95) and Jake McKenna (10.16) also ran for the X-Men and were fifth and sixth, respectively.
Martell and McKenna also competed in the high jump where Martell placed third with a 1.80m jump and McKenna was sixth at 1.70m.
In the men’s age 18-19 long jump, McKenna was third with a 5.62m showing. Martell and Thompson competed in the men’s age 20-34 long jump. Martell finished fourth overall at 6.31m and Thompson followed in fifth at 5.61m.
Thompson also competed in the triple jump where he placed fourth overall with an 11.79m performance.
