St. Pierre and McGuire named athletes of the week

X-Men track & field distance runner Connor McGuire was named the StFX Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 27, 2013. Connor, a fourth year Science student from Summerside, PEI won the 3000m race at the McGill Team Challenge this past Saturday, the largest indoor meet in Canada. Connor posted a personal best time of 8:20.23 in a race that featured 46 competitors. He also earned a fifth place finish in the 1500m race, crossing the line at 3:52.85. Connor is the two-time defending AUS cross country individual champion and was the 1500m and 3000m gold medalist at the 2012 AUS track & field championship.

X-Women basketball forward Lia St. Pierre was named the StFX Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 27, 2013. Lia, a fourth year Arts student from Moncton, NB played two strong games for the X-Women in splitting weekend games with Memorial. In Saturday’s 84-78 win, Lia scored 15 points and had 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 6 steals, while she was the high scorer in Sunday’s game in a close 80-75 loss. The StFX captain tallied 20 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 1 steal.  She is currently second in both team scoring (15.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.8 rpg).
