X-Women trounce Rams in CIS exhibition basketball

Donisha Young scored 21 points to lead the StFX X-Women to a convincing 97-58 win over the Ryerson Rams in CIS exhibition basketball action Friday evening at Oland Centre.
Young, also with six rebounds, was one of four X-Women who scored in double figures. Fifth-year post Kirsten Jones meshed 16 points, while Rebecca Sheehan and Anne Kiberd chipped in 14 apiece. Jones and Kiley DeLong collected six rebounds each, with the X-Women holding a 31-20 advantage on the glass.
The X-Women were 8-for13 from three-point range, with Kiberd connecting on four in the second half.
The blue and white led 24-17 after the first quarter and 48-36 at the half. Keyed by back-to-back three-pointers by Kiberd and a team defensive surge, the X-Women outscored the Rams 49-22 in a dominant second half. The visitors only scored eight points in the fourth quarter.
The X-Women shot 55 percent from the floor, while holding the Rams to 26.3 percent.
Angela Tilk and Kenesha Giles scored 14 points each to lead the Rams.
The X-Women return to action Saturday when they host the Laurentian Voyageurs. Game time is 5 p.m. at Oland Centre.
