X-Women defeat Voyageurs in CIS exhibition basketball

Anne Kiberd’s six second-half three-pointers led the StFX X-Women to a 79-64 win over the Laurentian Voyageurs in CIS exhibition basketball action Saturday evening at Oland Centre. Kiberd was the leading scoring for the blue and white with 18 points.
After trailing 41-28 at halftime, the visitors trimmed the lead to 10 early in the third quarter before Kiberd, a Halifax native, drained four consecutive shots from beyond the arc, extending the X-Women’s advantage to 18. Joining Kiberd in double figures were Kirsten Jones (13), Jocelyn Moore (12) and Kiley DeLong (10).
Jones, along with freshmen Kolbi Roper and Vanessa Pickard, collected seven rebounds apiece. The X-Women held a 40-32 advantage on the glass. Pickard also chipped in seven of the X-Women’s 25 assists.
Erin Simpson led the Voyageurs with 29 points.
It was the second consecutive home win for the X-Women against Ontario conference opponents. The X-Women opened the exhibition season Friday with a 97-58 win over the Ryerson Rams. Post player Donisha Young scored 21 points, while Jones (16), Kiberd and Rebecca Sheehan (14 each), were in double figures for the home team.
The X-Women return to the court next weekend when they compete in the Miramichi Invitational Tournament from Oct. 14-16 in New Brunswick.
