X-Women knock off Waterloo
The StFX X-Women knocked off Waterloo 86-51 in their final pre-season exhibition game Sunday morning.
The defensive-minded X-Women proved to be too much early on for Waterloo and after a 21-8 first quarter, they never looked back, shutting the Warriors down all over the floor. StFX increased their lead to 42-21 at the half.
Leading the way for the X-Women was Kirsten Jones who posted a double-double, finishing the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jones, a fifth year senior from Toronto, has played well for the X-Women so far this pre-season. Her knack for getting to the rebounds and being a shot blocker down low gives opposing teams fits as they try to attack and drive into the lane.
Freshman Vanessa Pickard has also gotten off to a good pre-season and she was the high scorer in the game for the X-Women with16 points while adding six rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Jocelyn Moore also had a great game for the X-Women, coming in off the bench and
giving positive minutes finishing the game with 12 points and four assists, while Donisha Young added 11 in the win. Laura Burnett was the top scorer for the Warriors with 11 points.
The depth of the X-Women has proven to be a big factor to their pre-season success as
playing minutes are very well distributed. StFX’s defensive package will prove to be crucial to their success through the long season.
With a 6-2 exhibition record to close out pre-season play, the X-Women now look ahead to their first AUS regular season game where they will host the Cape Breton Capers on Wednesday night, November 9th. Tip-off is 6:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium.
