X-Women drop 83-77 decision to Tigers
The StFX X-Women dropped an 83-77 decision to the Dalhousie Tigers in AUS basketball action Saturday evening at Dalplex in Halifax.
Fifth-year forward Donisha Young led the blue and white with 23 points and eight rebounds.
Freshman point guard Vanessa Pickard chipped in with 14 points and five assists. She also contributed four rebounds, three blocks and two steals.
Anne Kiberd was the only other X-Woman to reach double figures, with 10 points off the bench.
The Tigers led the X-Women 43-40 at halftime.
Point guard Keisha Brown led five Tigers in double figures with 19 points. She also grabbed six rebounds and five assists.
Tessa Stammberger (16), Courtney Thompson (15), Rachael Harrison (13) and Cailin Crosby (12) were the other double-digit scorers for the home team.
The X-Women shot 46.4 percent from the field, while out-rebounding the Tigers 51-42.
The Tigers forced 21 turnovers by the X-Women.
With the win, the Tigers (2-0) move into first place, while the X-Women drop to 1-1.
StFX returns to action Friday, Nov. 18, when they travel to Wolfville to face the Acadia Axewomen, while Dalhousie will visit Sydney to battle the Cape Breton University Capers on the same night.
