Hoop X-Women tame Tigers with a win
The X-Women basketball team picked up their second win of the season with a 64-58 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers Saturday evening at the StFX Oland Cente. StFX redeemed a loss to the same Tigers team two weeks ago in Halifax.
The game was closely played throughout each quarter. Dalhousie opened up with a slight 16-15 edge after the first period. The X-Women outplayed the visitors by an 11-6 margin in the second frame to take a 25-21 lead into the locker room at half-time.
The second half was again closely matched with StFX holding onto a 44-42 lead after the third quarter. They were able to hold on during the final frame for the 64-58 win.
Freshman guard Vanessa Pickard continued her strong play this season for the X-Women and led all scorers in the game with 19 points along with eight rebounds. Subway Player of the Game Kolbi Roper scored 13 points and had seven rebounds, while teammate Anne Kiberd also scored 13 points and picked up four boards. Jocelyn Moore scored nine points for StFX and Kiley DeLong had a strong defensive game with six points and 11 rebounds.
Leading the Tigers on the score board was Keisha Brown with 14 points, while Courtney Thompson scored 12 and Tessa Stammberger had a double-double game with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
With the win, the X-Women currently hold a 2-2 record in AUS play. They will have one more game to close out the first half of the season as they travel to Halifax on Tuesday to play the 4-1 Saint Mary’s Huskies.
