X-Women fall to 1st place Huskies
The X-Women basketball team travelled to Halifax Tuesday evening and were handed a 96-76 defeat on the part of the Saint Mary’s Huskies. The game marked the final AUS regular season game prior to the holiday break.
The teams started off fairly evenly in the opening quarters, trading baskets and playing to a deadlocked 23-23 score after 10 minutes. Justine Colley stepped up for the Huskies and scored 16 points in the second quarter as the Huskies took a 51-42 lead into the locker room at half-time.
The Huskies continued to build up their lead early on in the third quarter and although the X-Women made a run, the lead was too much to overcome. Saint Mary’s was up 70-55 after three quarters of play and held onto their lead throughout the fourth quarter.
Anne Kiberd provided some excitement late in the game for the X-Women, hitting four baskets from three-point range in the final frame. The final score wrapped up with the Huskies on top by a twenty point 96-76 margin.

Replying for the X-Women, Vanessa Pickard continued her strong play in her inaugural AUS season, scoring 24 points and tallying seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. At the holiday break she is currently second in AUS scoring next to Colley (and sixth in the nation), averaging 20 point per game.
