X-Women prove uNBeatable on road

Jan 21, 2008 - The hockey X-Women continued their winning ways this past weekend, notching two more victories and improving their league leading record to a perfect 14-0-0. On Saturday afternoon the X-Women travelled to Fredericton for a game against the sixth place UNB Varsity Reds and came away with a 3-1 win. Anna Barrett opened the scoring with a first period goal for the X-Women, while Carolyn Campbell added to the lead with a goal in the second period. Sarah Belmore pulled the Varsity Reds to within one goal of the X-Women with a goal 7:46 into the third period, but Catie Gavin sealed the win for X with a late goal in the game for the 3-1 win. The X-Women out-shot the Varsity Reds by a 40-17 margin with Crystal Stewart earning her seventh win of the season in nets for StFX. Terri Ryerson took the loss for UNB, though she made 37 saves in the process.\r\n\r\nOn Sunday afternoon the X-Women played in Moncton against the Aigles Bleues and X netminder Katie Harvieux stopped 25 shots on route to her fourth shutout of the season as the X-Women won 3-0. The X-Women picked up one goal each period from the sticks of Laura Grant, Brayden Ferguson and Jessica Shanahan. Kathy Desjardins took the loss in nets for the Aigles Bleues, facing 36 X-Women shots.\r\n\r\nWith the wins the nationally ranked fifth place X-Women remain in sole possession of first place atop the AUS standings with 28 points, five more than second place Saint Mary�۪s. They next see action on the road Saturday afternoon as they travel to Halifax for a game against the Huskies. On Sunday afternoon, the X-Women will host Mount Allison at the Keating Centre at 2pm.
