X-Women Continue Streak by Taming Tigers
CIS No. 3 X-Women came out victorious against Dalhousie this past Saturday afternoon defeating the Tigers 9-1. X-Women played only one game this weekend due to Friday night’s game against Mount Allison being postponed. Currently the X-Women are ranked No. 1 in the AUS with a 15-0 record.
In the first period the X-Women were handed a delay of game where Dalhousie’s Robyn Nicholson (1:08) took advantage of the power play and scored the first and only goal of the period.
Second period of play Jenna Downey (1:37) assisted by Daniela Falconio and Carolyn Campbell, scored StFX’s first goal of the night to tie the game. With thirty two seconds left in the period X-Women’s Nicole Hansom (19:28) fired one past the goal line to take the lead. Janelle Parent and Alex Normore with the assist.
The third period was all in the blue and white’s favor with a total of seven goals being scored. With just a bit over a minute into the third Erin Brophy (1:31), assisted by Campbell and Falconio, snuck one in the pipes to make it 3-1. Less than a minute later her teammate Abygail Laking (2:11) scored X-women’s forth goal. Hansom and Suzanne Fenerty with the assist. StFX’s Nicole Hansom (3:24 & 7:59) then fired two power play goals in to give her a hat trick. Tigers then pulled their goalie Ashley Boutlier and Chelsea Mueller took over the net minding duties. This didn’t stop StFX’s scoring roll. Daniela Falconio (11:14), assisted by Campbell, sneaks one past Mueller to bring the score to 7-1. X-Women’s Jenna Downey (19:27) scored her second goal of the game on the power play. Parent with the assist. Janelle Parent (19:42) then finished the game off with eighteen seconds left by scoring StFX’s ninth and final goal. Final score was 9-1 for the X-Women.
Final shots in the game were 46-22 in favor of the X-Women. Katie Greenway picked up the win in nets for StFX, while Boutlier was tagged with the loss for Dalhousie Tigers.
X-Women next see action this Friday at 7pm against Mount Allison and Saturday afternoon at 2pm against Moncton. Both games are on home ice at the Charles V. Keating Centre.
