X-Women hockey to compete at McGill Invitational
The CIS ranked No. 4 X-Women hockey team will get a chance to face off against some of the top teams in the nation as they are set to participate in the first ever Martlet Holiday Invitational Tournament in Montreal beginning today and continuing until Friday, December 30th, as hosted by McGill.
Last year’s CIS silver medalists, the X-Women will face their first test this afternoon at 4:00 pm EST against the No. 1 ranked host McGill Martlets. The Marlets are the CIS defending champions, they defeated the X-Women 5-2 in the 2010-11 final.
Also competing in the tournament are the CIS No. 2 Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks and the always competitive Manitoba Bisons. The Hawks and Bisons open tournament play today at 1:00 pm.
Thursday's games feature the X-Women taking on Laurier at 1:00 pm, followed by Manitoba and McGill at 4:00 pm. The tournament wraps up Friday with StFX playing Manitoba at 1:00 pm and the top two teams in the nation, McGill and Laurier, meeting at 4:00 pm.
The X-Women played both Manitoba and Laurier in last year’s CIS championship at Waterloo, ON. They beat each team by the same 4-3 score in round robin play.
Manitoba is currently fifth in the Canada West conference with a 7-5-2 record, four points out of first place. Wilfrid Laurier sits atop the OUA conference with a 13-0-1 record, while McGill leads the RSEQ at 10-1-0. The X-Women are 9-2-0 in AUS play in second place, four points back of first place Moncton.
All tournament games will be played at McConnell Arena on the campus of McGill University. Live stats for all games are available by clicking here.
