X-Men runners nab 1st place despite depleted roster

The X-Men cross country team wrapped up AUS competition with their fourth consecutive first place finish this afternoon in Halifax at the Dalhousie Invitational meet. The X-Men have placed first in all four meets on the 2011 schedule.
Today’s victory was their closest margin of victory to date as their 37 point total bettered the second place Dalhousie Tigers by a single point. Memorial placed third with 73 points, followed by UNB (87) and St. Thomas (138).
The X-Men earned the top three individual finishes in the 8k race as Connor McGuire ran to a first place showing with a time of 26:22. Teammates Riley Johnson and Aaron Doucette were very close behind at 26:28 and 26:36, respectively.
The X-Men roster was depleted as several key X-Men runners did not run this afternoon due to injuries. Ryan Hatchard and Gabe Quenneville were the only other X-Men runners to complete in the race that featured 41 AUS runners. Hatchard placed 15th overall with a time of 28:18 while Quenneville was 19th at 28:45.
The X-Men now have two weeks to recover in time for the AUS championship taking place Saturday, October 29th in Fredericton as the UNB Varsity Reds will host the conference final.
